Best hike on Oahu so far! Here’s why:
Bathroom breaks off the path - 1. Remember how great Mason Lake’s bathroom was?! Well think the reverse of that and then add humidity, water, and sand. And subtract toilet paper. Nature was a much better bathroom on this one.
(Point of clarification, the bathroom situation did NOT contribute to this being the best Oahu hike)
Trail runners - 2. Honestly, there should have been more. It is the perfect trail to go on a run, its wide and flat and around sunset it was not too crowded. Now, did I run it? No… but hold the judgment Judy, we had a large group!
Near death falls - 2 thanks to a daring member of the group. There are other viewpoints at the top of the mountains but no easy way to get there. The way up seems fun and adventurous enough but coming down is where lessons are learned and minor landslides started. Relax Mom, I stayed on the path so I could come home in one piece. Merry Christmas.
Times I said “WOW THAT WAS A HUGE WAVE!” and “this is AWESOMEEE!” - roughly 1004. I came out of it with more friends than I started so I like to think it added color to the atmosphere instead of annoyance.
Sneezing seals on the beach - 4. Three were part of what we assumed was a single mother, her teenager, and her baby. Clearly the kids were not washing their flippers enough during cold season in Seal School. And the other seal was just a loner tanning on the rocks, i.e. my kinda seal.
You can start this hike from the North Shore or Mokulei, we chose Mokulei and gathered that it was the longer route. Longer route being better, obviously, with views like these. For more info go here or just go hike.
Bonus pano below because how could I not?!
